Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Jazmine, who is Philadelphia native was raised and born in the city. Pam, her mother was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her a position as curator of the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She together with her family then relocated into the landmark. The year 2005 marks her Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduated who is majoring in vocal music. Sullivan began singing as a contralto in the children's choirand shortly after, she was a part of the adult choir. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was initially limited "I was doing solos in church and someone wanted me to sign to the gospel label at age was eleven but I wasn't prepared to sign that contract," she recalls. Then, McDonald's held a contest that was open to children living in cities. I was allowed to sing "Accept The Grace God Gives" at The show Showtime at the Apollo. And the crowd responded very well. Stevie Wonder sang her part at his 13th birthday. Sullivan signed her first contract with Jive Records when she was fifteen. When she was 15 she signed with Jive Records. She recorded an entire album there and then it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was later eliminated by the label. Missy Elliott was her producer for some tracks from Her debut album. For instance "Backstabbers" was a viral track recorded by Timbaland composed by Elliott.
